Hatteras Enjoys Success at Ft. Lauderdale Show
Despite Storms and Reduced Traffic, Yacht Sales Proceed at Solid Pace
NEW BERN, N.C., Nov. 12, 2007 – Hatteras Yachts enjoyed a solid Ft. Lauderdale Boat Show despite the potential effect on buyers' enthusiasm from continuing high fuel prices, a slow economy, threatening storms and reduced foot traffic. Thanks to a strong international market, the debut of the new 72 Motor Yacht, and the continuing success of its proven line of sportfishing convertibles, Hatteras secured a significant increase in retail sales and stock orders from its authorized dealer network. This combination of retail and stock orders represented the second most units sold at a Ft. Lauderdale show in more than 15 years, and the highest retail value over that same time frame.
“Considering the state of the overall economy and the downturn we've watched throughout the boating industry this year, we are thrilled with the results of this show,” said Jan Boone, Hatteras vice president of sales. “Hatteras continues to succeed in difficult times, thanks to our commitment to new product development and a growing international marketplace.”
Leading the charge in that international marketplace was Italy, where retail activity has reached an all-time high. International sales also were secured in the Middle East and South America. In the U.S., sales were spread throughout the nation, with Florida setting the pace. Units were also sold into the Great Lakes, Carolinas, California and Gulf Coast regions.
“This boat show was encouraging for us because of the way sales were spread across our product line, and dispersed throughout our dealer network,” Boone said. “Every dealer had activity, most closed deals on retail or stock units, and all left encouraged by an increase in activity in our marketplace.”
Hatteras displayed eight models at the boat show, ranging from 54 to 80 feet in length. Showers persisted through most of the show weekend, contributing to a nearly 15-percent reduction in foot traffic at the Hatteras display.
